Rankings

EDsmart brings you an easy to read, easy to digest ranking of the best online colleges in Alabama for online and on-campus degree programs.

Schools are ranked based on four data points in three categories:

  • Affordability (financial aid, net price)
  • Student Satisfaction (retention rate)
  • Student Outcome (4-year graduation rate)

Each data point is ranked with equal weight. Schools received an overall score by aggregating each point and ranking accordingly–100 being the highest score possible. 1 being the highest possible rank.

In the case of a tie in scoring, the average net price was the determining factor for which school received the higher rank–the lower the net price, the higher the ranking.

All data was gathered from the National Center for Education Statistics website and is accurate at the time of this writing [May 2019].

Overview

Higher education is changing as technology advances, with many schools now offering online learning in some capacity. Many universities offer hybrid classes, which are a mix of in-person and online instruction. It is also increasingly common for universities to offer fully online courses and even offer fully online degree plans.

Some students still prefer the traditional in-person method of instruction, while others enjoy the flexibility of online learning. Finding the instruction method that is right for you and that fits into your lifestyle can be an essential factor in your success. One thing in-person, hybrid, and online students have in common is that they want to ensure they attend the right school and get a high-quality education. Alabama has many quality universities for a potential student’s consideration.

Alabama takes its name from one of the Native American tribes that originally lived in the area. Situated on the Gulf of Mexico, it’s been an agricultural producer for 200 years and, since World War II, it’s expanded its output to include other areas of manufacturing and technology creation.

The state produces poultry, eggs, and cattle, as well as iron, steel, and lumber and other wood products. Additionally, Alabama creates aerospace products in and around Huntsville, which is home to NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center. One of the advantages of living in Alabama is that its tax structure is one of the most regressive in the country, meaning that those with higher incomes pay a smaller amount of tax relative to their resources.
