South Dakota is one of the least densely populated states in the country, with 812,000 residents spread out over 77,116 square miles. The Missouri River runs through the middle of the state, dividing it into two areas: West River and East River. Each area has different economic strengths. East River is full of rich soil, making it a good source for agriculture, such as cattle, corn, hogs, wheat, and soybeans.
