Accredited Online Colleges in Delaware

Delaware was the first state to ratify the U.S. Constitution and thus the first member of the new union, achieving its status on December 7, 1787. One of the smallest states in the nation, it’s only 9 miles across at one point, and 35 miles across at its widest point. It’s so small that it only has three counties: New Castle (the most populous and affluent), Kent, and Sussex. The economy is built on government and banking interests. On the financial front, Wilmington Trust is headquartered there. Additionally, chemical companies DuPont and Hercules Inc. are based in Delaware, providing jobs and a boost to the local economy. Franchise taxes levied against corporations account for 20% of the state’s annual revenue.

Though it is a small state, Delaware has multiple education opportunities for students seeking distance education. From vocational schools to private institutions, Delaware has accredited institutions to meet students’ needs. Accrediting bodies include the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, Commission on Higher Education and the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges. Schools such as Widener University also have program-specific accreditations. For instance, Widener’s physical therapy program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education and its business program is accredited by the AACSB. With such options, students have a wide range of choices of high-quality educational institutions.
